The Face of Fear
The white dragon continued to follow the action of the humans. Predicting their next destination, the white dragon used several less traveled passageways in order to surpass their movement and observe them further.
Then he felt it.
“The magic. The new magic, I feel it again.”
The white dragon looked around. Then, changing course, he followed an alternative path.
“I feel it again. I can sense it. It feels different from the girl. This must be the source!”
Upon finding a small room sequestered off to the side of a corridor, he discovered a young girl sitting alone.
“What? How? How did the girl get here without the others? Why is she alone? How is this possible? How did she travel—”
The white dragon stared at the innocent young girl using her magic to stack rocks, unaware of being watched.
“I feel so much fear… this girl… is different. She is not the same as the other human girl. She is the source. The powers I have felt must come from her.”
The white dragon closed its eyes.
“I feel her magic. Unique, powerful, yet very new, untrained. It feels… ancient?”
The white dragon opened its eyes, staring at the young girl observing her every move from a distance.
“Where did you get your magic, young one? It feels dragon, yet you are human. The pearl is no longer here. How have you acquired your magic? It feels powerful, stronger than the pearl. Where did you come from?”
The white dragon closed its eyes with a purring growl.
“Mmmm, I feel much fear in this one. She buries her anger. It builds within her. How can such a small being hold so much fear? Her face lies. She hides what lies beneath. Her magic will consumer her. It will corrupt her. She is too young, too angry and afraid to control it. She will become a powerful force for evil.”
The white dragon opened its eyes.
“I must take her.”
“This girl is special. She wields powers she doesn’t understand. I will teach her magic. I will teach her to find power in her fear and in her anger. If she refuses, I will torture her and feast on her terror and doubt.”
The white dragon stared at her. A rumbling of noises and vibrations echoed through the underground caverns. The white dragon only stared at the girl.
“She is the awakening. I see now. I see everything in the valley.”
The white dragon glances toward the noises.
“The others must be her friends. Their deaths will destroy any hope she may have left. Fill her soul with fury and hatred. Bind the magic to despair. I will fulfill my task; I will cleanse the valley. The other humans are no use to me. I will destroy the monster. I will eradicate all living things in this valley and the vermin shall be no more. This girl, I will take with me. I will own her, and her powers.”
The white dragon continued to stare at the young girl.
“Stay here, my pet. I will come for you soon.”
