A Voice from the Dark

                  “MOVE!”

“What?!” Leila looked up at Ella and Hjalmar Geir. But they didn’t say a word, focused on finding any reprieve from the vertical hang. Then the thought crossed Leila’s mind again.

                  “MOVE!”

Her mind didn’t tell her to follow Ella and Hjalmar Geir. It felt like her mind wanted her to get out of the way. Let go. Leila believed the stress and duress of the situation affected her mind and clarity. Leila turned to the darkness below them. Was it Lili? Then she felt it again.

                  “MOVE!”

This time, feeling more urgent. Leila once against faced a choice that defied all logic. It made no sense, yet it felt like someone, or something, tried to communicate to her telepathically. The feeling did not follow any kind of rational reason. The premonitions grew stronger.

“MOVE! I will save you. Let go!”

Her heart fluttered. She felt light for a moment. Her mind explained it as blood rushing from her head under the extreme physical exertion, but emotionally, it felt different. Her emotions defied the predicament she was in. The feelings continued to grow stronger and stronger.

“Let Go. I will save you.”

Her mind tried to explain away the fear as her body grew weaker and weaker. Then her mind flashed with the memory of Lili calling out the magic words for light while surrounded in absolute darkness. Lili would not hesitate to listen to the voice. Lili took a leap of faith despite all the doubt. Then her own words echoed in her mind.

“I would do anything to get my sister back.”
